(June 30, 2015) – The Rainbow Warrior is back for one last race.
Jeff Gordon announced Tuesday on CBS This Morning that the iconic rainbow paint scheme would return for the Saturday, Aug. 22, 2015, race in Bristol, Tenn.
The four-time NASCAR champ said fans have wanted to see the car return during his last racing season.
“Ever since it was announced this year was my final season, the fans have been vocal on social media wanting us to run it again,” Gordon said. “Thanks to Axalta for allowing that to happen.”
The design originally appeared on Gordon’s No. 24 DuPont car (DuPont has since rebranded as Axalta). He won three of his four NASCAR championships with the rainbow paint scheme. He’s also had good luck at “The Last Great Colosseum” in Bristol, Tenn., winning four of his five races in the colorful rainbow-colored car.
Gordon hasn’t raced in the rainbow car since 2004.
