MORGAN COUNTY, Ind. – The Morgan County Coroner’s Office is investigating the accidental death of a construction worker at an IPL power plant near Martinsville.

The sheriff’s office responded to the accident at Eagly Valley CCGT in the 4000 block of Bluff Road around 3:40 p.m. Monday.

Morgan County Coroner Annette Rohlman says the male ironworker was fatally struck in the head by an I-Beam/catwalk after a rigging device failed.  He was a member of the Local Ironworkers 22.

This is the second fatality at the site this year. An IPL contractor was killed on the job in March. Rohlman told the Indy Star 50-year-old Rickey A. Brewer died of blunt force trauma.

“Safety is always our top priority, and we will continue cooperating with emergency personnel to confirm details regarding the incident,” said an IPL official.
