MEDINA, TX – A sign that was recently put outside of a school in Texas is receiving a lot of attention on social media.

The sign is warning to visitors that its staff may be armed and ready to use force.

The board of trustees at Medina Independent School District, a school that houses 303 students from pre-kindergarten through high school, added the warning sign on Wednesday.

The sign reads: “ATTENTION: Please be aware that the staff at Medina ISD may be armed and will use whatever force is necessary to protect our students.”

Superintendent Penny White told KSAT that there wasn’t any specific event that prompted discussion about the sign, but she hopes the sign will deter not just school shootings but any sort of violence.

She says the school board discussed the sign for a year before installing it.

“I think that anybody who might have a thought about harming someone in mind would think twice about it,” said White.

White wouldn’t disclose with KSAT whether any staff members are actually armed, but she says they take safety seriously.
