BEECH GROVE, Ind. (June 17, 2015) – Police arrested a second woman involved in the now viral Beech Grove Walmart brawl.
Rebecca Mills is charged with disorderly conduct for her involvement in the altercation on June 4.
This charge comes five days after Amber Stephenson was arrested in connection with the videotaped fight. Stephenson has been charged with neglect of a dependent (a level 6 felony) and contributing to the delinquency of a minor (a class “A” misdemeanor).
Mills is seen in the video wearing a grey shirt. She gets up from her motorized scooter and fights with Stephenson.
“The second arrest today of Ms. Mills makes this a much harder case,” said Jack Crawford, a local defense attorney.
Crawford isn’t representing either of the women in the Walmart fight case.
“They are both charged with disorderly conduct, which is fighting–well someone started the fight,”said Crawford.
Stephenson told police that she got into it with Mills because she overheard her yelling racial slurs at a Walmart employee. However, that employee later told investigators that never happened.
“Charges are being filed now quite frankly because of national media pressure. I think it’s easier for the prosecutors to say we will charge both ladies–let them almost literally fight it out in court,” said Crawford.
“They seemed like nice people. I wouldn’t expect her to be that woman. It’s kind of just mind blowing,” said Blake Lyons, Mills’ neighbor.
Mills was taken into custody Wednesday and bonded out of jail early Thursday morning. Her initial court appearance is scheduled for July 22.
