LAWRENCE (Feb. 26, 2015) – Lawrence police are trying to find a driver involved in a violent hit-and-run crash that put a man in intensive care.
The incident happened around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21, in the 8700 block of Pendleton Pike. Surveillance video shows the victim crossing Pendleton Pike when a car hits him, sending him airborne.
Police believe the vehicle is a blue-colored Dodge Charger or similar style vehicle. Lawrence police said evidence from the scene showed the car may have been a Ford or Saturn model.
Witnesses said the driver of the vehicle stopped, got out of the car and then returned to the vehicle before driving away. The car would have damage to the front and possibly the passenger’s side of the vehicle.
“Not only is there a duty to stay after a motor vehicle accident but there’s also a duty of care as a human being as well beyond that,” explains Captain Gary Woodruff, with the Lawrence Police Department.
The man hurt in the incident is 40-year-old Victor Ramirez. Ramirez was taken to an area hospital in critical condition. He suffered broken bones and internal injuries and remains in intensive care, police said.
“Just come forward. Take responsibility for your actions and tell us what happened,” explains Woodruff.
