The semi-trailer truck driver killed in an accident on Interstate 69 in Madison County Wednesday has been identified.

Gary Knott, 56, of Van Wert, Ohio, was fatally injured when his semi, carrying hazardous materials, flipped between exits 19 and 22.

The Herald Bulletin reported Knott attempted to pass another semi but struck it, causing Knott’s semi to jackknife before overturning.

The roadways were closed for several hours as crews worked to clean material used to make asphalt, as well as diesel fuel and battery acid that leaked from the semi.
