Semi jumps I-74 overpass, bursts into flames in Greensburg

GREENSBURG, Ind.—Authorities are investigating an accident after a semi driver drove up a hill and through two guardrails in order to avoid striking another vehicle on Interstate 74 Thursday afternoon. 

The shocking incident was captured on dash cam and showed the semi flying over the U.S. 421 interchange, before bursting into flames.

Authorities said the semi, driven by 30-year-old Ryan Young, was carrying fuel tanks, which ignited during the crash.

Preliminary investigation revealed Young was heading eastbound on I-74 and approaching Exit 132, when another vehicle began drifting into his lane. The semi driver said he swerved to avoid hitting the car, causing him to run off the south side of the interstate.

Young sustained minor facial and head injuries. His 7-year-old son who was also in the semi at the time of the crash suffered only a few scratches. They were both transported to Decatur County Hospital.

Police continue to investigate the crash.
