SHELBY COUNTY, Ind. (April 5, 2016) – Authorities are warning residents about a phone scam that’s spread to Shelby County.
According to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department, the scam works like this: scammers call from an unknown phone number and claim they work with local law enforcement. They then tell residents there’s a warrant for their arrest and demand money.
They threaten their victims by claiming a deputy will show up at their home and arrest them if they don’t pay up.
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Department said law enforcement agencies will never call you at home and demand money for this or any other reason.
If you get a similar phone call, contact the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department at (317)-398-6661 or call your local law enforcement agency.
