SHELBYVILLE — The defense attorney for the man accused of killing his girlfriend and burying her in his backyard told Fox59 his client will plead not guilty.

Scott Schuck has been charged with the murder of Rebecca Cassidy. She has been missing for four years.

Police said detectives received information recently and obtained a search warrant to dig up Schuck’s yard. Stunningly, they found human remains and a purse with an ID that belongs to Cassidy.

Court documents reveal Schuck confessed to police that he got into an argument with Cassidy, struck her, and strangled her and then buried her in his yard.

Even so, his attorney told Fox59 there was more information that hasn’t been released yet that will explain what really happened.

He also said Schuck will plead not guilty.

“I don’t know a whole lot right now, but there are things that I do know that are going to come out and they’re going to explain a lot. And I look forward for Scott’s sake when that happens,” said defense attorney Andrew Baldwin.

Police said the remains still have to be identified which could take several weeks.
