Man killed in shooting on near west side

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — A person was shot and killed late Saturday night on the near west side of Indianapolis.

Indianapolis Metropolitan police confirmed the shooting happened around 11 p.m. in the 500 block of Traub Avenue. When responding officers arrived, they located a man suffering from at least one apparent gunshot wound. The Marion County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as 38-year-old Robert Underwood.

Underwood was immediately transported in critical condition to a nearby hospital for treatment. Despite the best life-saving measures by EMS personnel and doctors, he was pronounced dead shortly before midnight.

A spokesperson for IMPD said they are treating this as a homicide investigation.

IMPD detectives were dispatched and quickly began interviewing witnesses. The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency assisted in the investigation by gathering any potential evidence from the crime scene.
