UPDATE (June 1, 2019)– The cause of death for Southport Detective Sergeant Jason Swanson was ruled to be acute asthma exacerbation, according to the Southport Police Department and the Marion County Coroner’s office.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – A Southport detective died early Monday morning.

Police began an investigation near 21st and MLK around 3:30 a.m. after a man was found dead in his car. Police at the scene told FOX59 the death was “natural,” but we’re still awaiting the coroner’s report for confirmation. An autopsy will be performed on Tuesday.

Southport Police Chief Thomas Vaughn told FOX59 that the deceased person is Southport Detective Sergeant Jason Swanson.

Swanson had been a detective with the Southport Police Department since January 2015. Before his tenure in Southport, he was an EMT with the Indianapolis Fire Department from October 2005 to October 2013.
