SOUTHPORT, Ind. – The Southport Police Department is teaming up with Uno Chicago Grill to hold a pizza eating competition to raise money for new ballistic vests.

During the fundraiser, officers are given 15 minutes to eat as much of a large personal pan pizza as they can. Other officers help serve tables and Chief Vaughn acts as the guest bartender and auctioned off the drinks that he made.

The first group of officers competed Friday night and the second will battle it out Saturday. Officers will be at the restaurant, near the intersection of Southport Road and Emerson Avenue, from 6 – 8 p.m.

Officer Nate Williams won Friday with a time of 6 minutes and 28 seconds. He says his secret is that he hates cheese, so he eats that part first to get it over with.
