INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (March 28, 2015) — More than 300 athletes from around the state are participating in a Special Olympics youth basketball tournament in Indianapolis this weekend.

This year’s tournament is at the University of Indianapolis’ Ruth Lilly Fitness Center and Basketball gyms.

There are more than 30 teams competing in the junior and senior divisions.

University of Indianapolis students are volunteering to make sure the players have a memorable time.

Tournament Director Mitch Huppert says “it’s important not every kid gets a chance to be a star.”

“This just makes the kids so much happier,” he said. “It brings a lot of joy to their hearts.”

This is the sixth year that U of Indy students have partnered with Special Olympics Indiana to organize and host the statewide tournament.
