Hoosiers celebrate St. Patrick’s Day downtown with annual parade

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — People in downtown Indianapolis enjoyed a sea of green as the 38th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade kicked off Friday morning, despite chilly temperatures.

The annual event highlights a busy St. Patrick’s Day weekend with numerous activities scheduled for both Friday and Saturday that are expected to bring about 40,000 – 50,000 people into the city.

The FOX59 crew came out to celebrate, handing out candy to little ones and meeting loyal viewers and fans.

The parade was made up of high school bands, floats, Irish dancers, bag pipe & drum bands, Irish organizations and dignitaries. A block party took place throughout the day on Vermont Street with live entertainment, food, interactive displays and beer garden located in the middle of the parade route.
