St. Paul man dies, Shelbyville woman suffers life-threatening injuries in head-on crash

ST. PAUL, Ind. – A man died after his 2004 Chevrolet Silverado collided with a 2005 Ford Explorer in a head-on crash on Old US 421 near St. Paul Wednesday morning.

Police responded to the crash south of County Road 520 West in Decatur County around 11:30 a.m.

An initial investigation indicated that the driver of the Explorer, Melissa R. Kilian, 41, of Shelbyville, was traveling southbound, when she collided with the driver of the Silverado, Bruce W. Parish, 28, of St. Paul.

Parish sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead on scene by the Decatur County Coroner’s Office.

Kilian suffered possible life threatening injuries.  She was transported by medical helicopter to an Indianapolis hospital.

At this time, the investigation is ongoing to determine which vehicle crossed the center line.  It is unknown if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.

Old US 421 was closed for around two hours as crews investigated and cleaned up.
