St.Vincent Carmel Hospital officials announced the completion of a 39,745-square-foot renovation of the rooms and amenities in the maternity unit Tuesday.

The 124-bed hospital typically delivers babies from northern Marion County, Carmel, Fishers, Westfield and Zionsville. To demonstrate the hospital’s commitment to mothers and babies, the entire third floor has been dedicated to maternity services.

The labor and delivery suites offer new features, including a fully adjustable birthing bed and an infant alcove attached to each room. Other amenities include a TV, DVD player and free wireless access.

The newly expanded rooms include private, spacious bathrooms, some of which offer specialty BainUltra air jet tubs. The air jet baths offer the expecting mother light massage with a built-in heater to help her relax and focus. The tub is designed to be hypoallergenic in comparison to regular Jacuzzi tubs.

St.Vincent Carmel Hospital is prepared for anything that may arise before, during and after birth. Should additional care be needed, obstetrician/gynecologists, anesthesiologists and neonatologists are available around the clock.

To support high-risk births, the Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is designated Level III by the state of Indiana, where babies get continuous comprehensive care. In addition, the board certified high-risk obstetrical staff specializes in helping expectant moms with health conditions such as asthma, diabetes or the birth of multiples.
