State lawmakers are honoring the Central Indiana Young Marines for being on the front lines in the wake of a devastating tornado.

Monday, the House of Representatives recognized the young men and women for their many community efforts, especially for their efforts in assisting victims of last year’s twister in Henryville.

Organization leaders say they couldn’t be more proud of the students’ work to help others.

“We’re extremely honored to be here and to be recognized by the House of Representatives. It’s kind of hard to put into words but it’s a very humbling experience,” said David Heffner, Commander.

The Young Marines teach students core fundamentals including leadership, discipline and respect.
