Update: Indiana State Police investigating officer-involved shooting in Waynetown

UPDATE: According to Indiana State Police, officers responded to an alleged drunk and disorderly subject at a residence in Waynetown at approximately 1:58 a.m. on Sunday.

Officers arrived to find a man who appeared intoxicated and belligerent, police say. Family members and friends left on their own or were removed by officers to ensure their safety.

As officers were preparing to leave the scene, the man came out of the residence with a weapon and allegedly pointed it in the direction of bystanders and officers.

Responding to aggression, a shot was fired by an officer striking the subject, ISP confirms.

Officers started first aid before medics arrived at the scene.

The man was transported to Franciscan Hospital in Crawfordsville before being air lifted to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis with what appeared to be serious injuries.

Police say no officers or bystanders were injured.

Neither the name of the man or officer involved in this incident is being released at this time.

The investigation is continuing.

WAYNETOWN, Ind. — Indiana State Police is investigating an officer involved shooting in Waynetown.

According to Montgomery County Sheriff Mark Casteel, the incident occurred at approximately 2:28 a.m. early Sunday.

No additional information was provided by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department.

ISP will be the lead investigating agency and have been reached out to for further information.
