GARY, Ind. — The Statewide Amber Alert that was issued for a 15-year-old girl Monday has been cancelled after she was found safe in Gary Tuesday.

The teen’s 34-year-old mother was the victim of a homicide early Monday morning, according to the Lake County Coroner’s Office.

Before finding the missing teen, police believed she was in extreme danger. Officers said the girl was wearing a grey t-shirt and black jeans when she was last seen. They also said she is 5 feet 2 inches tall, 130 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

People with information regarding her whereabouts were asked to contact the Gary Police Department at 1-888-58AMBER (582-6237) or 911.

The teen’s photo and name have been removed from this story to protect her identity.
