All eyes to the sky as storms begin to bubble in this warm/humid unstable atmosphere. Explosive thunderstorm development is likely.
Storms will start in the northwest and will increase in coverage throughout the afternoon. This air is energized and unstable with CAPE well above 2000 – a measure of energy in the atmosphere and well high enough to support severe storms.
Initially storms will build quickly – with large hail the primary threat early on the afternoon. Hail size to tennis ball size is possible along with very heavy rainfall. As the storms increase later this evening damaging winds and gusts to 75 mph are possible.
A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for most of central Indiana until 9 p.m.. Hail 2.5 inches in diameter and damaging winds up to 70 mph are possible.
