INDIANAPOLIS-One person was slightly injured as a result of a fire Friday on the city’s near east side.

It happened about 8:10 p.m. in the 3000 block of Meredith Ave., where firefighters attacked heavy fire and smoke in the two-story residence. A neighbor suffered a cut after breaking a window while investigating the fire scene. A search determined that no one was home at the time of the fire, according to a department news release.

It took firefighters more than an hour to contain the stubborn blaze that caused an estimated $80,000 in damage.  Neighbors told investigators that no one had seen the family home all day. The family had just moved into the house two weeks ago, according to the release.

A dog was found unharmed and was taken in by neighbors.
