INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (March 31, 2014)– Police have arrested two suspects after a bank robbery on Indianapolis’ north side Monday afternoon.

Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) were called to the Fifth Third Bank located at  8539 N. College Ave., near 86th St. just before 4 p.m on a reported bank robbery.

Two men, armed and masked, robbed the bank. The suspects fled in a stolen vehicle. Members of the FBI Safe Streets Task Force (SSTF) and IMPD officers arrested one suspect after the vehicle they were driving was involved in an accident in the 7600 block of North College Avenue.  The second suspect was apprehended soon thereafter on foot in a nearby residential neighborhood.

“We are thankful to the officers of IMPD and the FBI SSTF for their effort that resulted in the arrest of two suspects,” IMPD Chief Rick Hite said. “This collaboration between federal, state and local police will enable us to do more in our crime fighting effort.”

The investigation is ongoing.

Indianapolis FBI Special Agent in Charge Robert A. Jones stated, “These arrests demonstrate the outstanding coordination and cooperation between the FBI SSTF and IMPD detectives and patrol officers.”
