INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Dec. 1, 2014)– Police have identified a man who died in a police chase on November 28.

Police say Donshey James, 17, died after allegedly stealing a car from a woman Friday and crashing it into a tree while attempting to evade police on the city’s east side.

The victim, Yolanda Beasley, told officers she was warming up her vehicle in her driveway. When she returned outside the vehicle was gone.

As James reached the intersection of East 38th Street and North Sherman Drive during the chase, he swerved to avoid striking another vehicle, causing him to lose control and crash against a tree. James was pronounced deceased at the scene by EMS personnel. No other passengers were inside the vehicle.

The Marion County Chief Deputy Coroner announced Monday that the cause of death was multiple blunt force injuries.
