CARMEL, Ind. (January 16, 2016)–Four teens were injured when the car they were riding in crashed after fleeing police early Saturday.

The driver, a 19-year-old was arrested on a charge of resisting law enforcement with a vehicle.

Fishers Police say it all began when one of their officers spotted the car and attempted to stop the vehicle for an infraction.

The driver reportedly took off and there was a brief chase.

The Fishers police officer said he pulled off the pursuit since it was only an infraction and not worth the risk involved in keeping up a pursuit.

The driver of the car, however, continued to flee and failed to negotiate  a curve and ended up crashing into a utility pole near East 96th Street and Hazel Del Parkway.

Carmel police investigated the crash.  There were five people in the car, one adult male and four teens.

One female teen was critically injured, and she is still in a coma.

All five occupants were injured and taken to area hospitals for treatment.
