HANCOCK COUNTY, Ind. -- Thieves stole a dozen firearms from a gun store in Hancock County, police say.

Federal investigators are now offering a $10,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest in the case.

Quicker than the traffic on Highway 40, thieves broke the glass door on the gun store, stole a dozen guns and vanished.

“These people are well thought out it appears.  They go in and work swiftly,” said Hancock County sheriff’s Capt. Jeff Rasche.

Rasche says sheriff’s deputies arrived at J & M Sporting Goods just four minutes after the alarm sounded and the suspects had already fled.

“They know what they’re doing. They’re in with a mission. They act quickly. They grab and they’re out and gone,” said Rasche.

During the quick early morning smash-and-grab, the thieves got away with a variety of handguns and long guns. Last week, in a very similar crime, thieves broke into Highsmith Guns in Greenfield. Investigators say it’s likely the same suspects are responsible for both break-ins.

Luckily, in the first crime which was caught on camera, the store employed extra security measures that prevented any guns from being taken.

“The suspects had made entry into the store, but not into where the weapons were stored in a safe location,” said Rasche.

Investigators say having stolen guns in the hands of criminals is obviously a huge concern to law enforcement.

“I mean it’s no secret anytime dangerous weapons fall in hands of bad people,  it’s a recipe for bad things to happen,” said Rasche.

Police and sheriff’s investigators did not have any suspect information to give out. Anyone with information on the thefts is asked to contact the Hancock County Sheriff's Department at (317) 477-1147.
