(Jan. 2, 2015) – More than 5,200 Duke Energy customers were without power at one point Friday morning.

The utility’s website showed most of the outages were concentrated in Hamilton County, with several hundred also in Boone County.

Duke Energy officials said the outage started around 6:50 a.m. The problem involved a large transmission line, which was the reason so many customers were affected. Crews found a short piece of wire that had burned in two, causing the outage.

Duke Energy officials said power had been restored to customers just after 10 a.m.
