MIAMI COUNTY, Ind. – Three people died after a head-on crash Monday night in Miami County.

According to Indiana State Police, troopers responded to the crash scene near U.S. 24 and County Road 250 North around 9:10 p.m.

The preliminary investigation found that William Thorn, 86, Peru, was going westbound in the eastbound lanes of U.S. 24 in a 2010 Toyota Camry. The Toyota collided head-on with a 2003 Mazda Protégé that was traveling eastbound.

Thorn and the driver of the Mazda, Ethan Richman, 18, Kokomo, were pronounced dead at the scene, as was Richman’s passenger, Lea Byers, 19, Greentown.

Police said all three were wearing seatbelts. However, the crash impact was too severe for the restraints to prevent their deaths.

Police don’t believe alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.
