INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – For the third year in a row, the Indianapolis International Airport has been named the top U.S. domestic airport by Condé Nast readers.
Condé Nast announced their Reader’s Choice Awards this week after more than 300,000 people participated in their online awards survey.
“It’s one thing to earn travelers’ recognition via this prestigious honor as top U.S. airport,” said Kelly Flynn, IAA board president. “Yet earning it three years in a row demonstrates a consistent culture, one that is not driven by gimmick or program, but by thoughtful decisions that put the traveler at the center of it all.”
The 2016 Condé Nast Readers’ Choice Award is the latest among a list of honors and recognitions travelers have given to the Indianapolis International Airport this year, including 2016 Best Airport in North America Award from Airports Council International North America, the 2016 TripAdvisorTravelers’ Choice Favorite for U.S. Airports in the medium-size category, and finished strong in second place on the Travel + Leisure Magazine’s annual World’s Best Awards among U.S. domestic airports.
But Mario Rodriguez, executive director of the Indianapolis Airport Authority, said the Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards are the longest-running and most prestigious recognition of excellence in the travel industry, and are commonly known as “the best of the best of travel.”
“In the travel industry, this is a big deal — a really big deal,” said Rodriguez. “With more than 300,000 traveler ratings, Indy comes out at the top again for providing an excellent traveler experience. For us, that is by design, never by accident. Everything that happens here starts with the traveler experience top of mind.”
The Indianapolis International Airport serves more than 8 million business and leisure travelers each year and averages 143 daily flights, seasonally and year-round, to 43 nonstop destinations.
