INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (June 21, 2014) — Thousands of people hopped on their bikes Saturday morning for the annual Tour De Cure bike ride.

The event raised money and awareness about diabetes.

There were about 1400 cyclists in the event at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, raising nearly $700,000.

An estimated 750,000 Hoosiers live with diabetes and in Marion County, the number is about 1 in 10.

Organizers say the ride is about making people aware of diabetes and hopefully about finding a cure.

Leaders with the American Diabetes Association say genetics and environmental factors like exercise and diet play a role in developing the disease.
