Three people rescued from apartment fire on near southeast side

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Nov. 4, 2014)– Firefighters are on the scene of a two alarm apartment fire on the near southeast side of Indianapolis.

The fire started around 4 p.m. Tuesday in the 900 block of Prospect St. in the basement apartment. The fire was contained to the basement, but smoke spread to floors above.

Three people were rescued from three different windows on the third and fourth floors. The three rescued people were transported to the hospital with minor injuries in stable condition.

Eighteen people were displaced from 13 apartment units in the building. The Red Cross says they are ready to assist.

IndyGo has provided a bus to help with shelter and transport.

The building had working smoke detectors.
