INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.– Police say two people were injured Monday in a shooting on the city’s south side.

Officers were called to the scene at the Pine Glen Apartments on East Hanna Avenue just before 5 p.m. on a report of a person shot.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) confirmed two people were shot. They were taken to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition.

Police believe the shooting stemmed from a home invasion. A person inside the home and the alleged intruder were both injured.

Daija Williams told FOX59 she lives at the home with her boyfriend, and it was her boyfriend’s brother who was shot. She said she’s seen violence breaking out across Indianapolis, but she never expected it to end up in her home.

“I’ve always felt safe up until now. Now I just feel like I’m going to have to watch my back from now on,” Williams said.

Williams was at work at the time of the shooting. She and other residents said they’d been concerned about security in their complex lately.

“Over the weekend my boyfriend talked about talking to the apartments and getting cameras in our building, just because it’s right on a busy road and you never know,” Williams said.

“The kids don’t really go outside here or anything and that will continue,” neighbor Justine Carlson said.

Tuesday morning, IMPD officers say three men were seen running from the apartment Monday night. They are not sure how exactly they’re connected to the home invasion and the gunfire that followed.

Police say they will not release the identities of either person shot until they gather more information from the investigation.

Detectives spent hours at the apartment collecting evidence, and took several witnesses in for questioning. Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers at (317) 262-TIPS.
