INDIANAPOLIS – Two teenagers have been arrested in connection with a Wednesday morning attack on a 54-year-old man.

Kyle Mitchell and Dechel Dossett, both 18 years old, are preliminarily charged with attempted murder, robbery, burglary, auto theft and theft.

According to Indianapolis Metropolitan police, the teens were burglarizing the home of 54-year-old Kenneth Haskins when he returned home to find them. When he interrupted the burglary, police said the teens ambushed and beat him. They left with items stolen from Haskins’ home as well as two of his cars.

Police said the attack left Haskins in critical condition. He was taken to Wishard Hospital.

Officers responded to the area of 16th Street and Hawthorne Lane around 6:10 a.m. after a 911 call reported a bloodied man was in the middle of the street. A second 911 call came in from the 21st Street and Arlington area, where witnesses saw two men going through a white Mercedes. Police believed the car was connected to the initial call.

One of the teens was taken into custody without incident; the second ran away and led police on a chase that included jumping on rooftops. Police called the teens “persons of interest” in the early stages of the investigation.
