7 injured, 2 seriously in I-70 pileup in Hendricks Co.

Seven people were injured, two seriously, after dozens of vehicles crashed on Interstate 70 in Hendricks County Thursday afternoon.

Authorities received word of the accident at approximately 2:10 p.m.

Three patients were transported to Methodist Hospital, two to IU Health and two to Hendricks County Regional Hospital.

The roadways are expected to be closed in both directions for several more hours.

Officials said as many as 40 vehicles, including 20 semis, were involved.  Weather is believed to be a factor in the accidents, but the official cause of the crash is still being investigated.

Fox59 suggests the following detours:

Heading East on I-70:
Get off at State Road 39 & head North to U.S. 40. Take U.S. 40 East until you hit 465.

Heading West to I-70:
Get off at U.S. 40 (Washington St.) & head West until State Road 39. Take State Road 39 to I-70.
