INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (June 4, 2014)—The 17-year-old female student shot near Arsenal Tech High School was released from the hospital Wednesday.

The student showed up to the school Tuesday morning after being shot in the arm. The school was temporarily placed on lockdown as police searched for the suspect, 19-year-old William Alvies.

Around 2:10 p.m., Alvies turned himself in to police custody and was preliminarily charged with attempted murder.

Police said Alvies and the student were fighting in a nearby parking lot prior to the shooting. At some point the victim ran from the parking lot toward the school. The suspect chased the victim, stopped and fired several shots, striking the girl.

The victim’s grandmother told FOX59 the 17-year-old girl and Alvies had an off and on relationship.
