Victim of West Lafayette fire near Purdue University identified

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (April 25, 2014)– West Lafayette Police have identified the victim who died in a fire near Purdue University’s campus.

Cody Day, 22, died in the fire that started early Thursday morning. Police have not said if he is a Purdue University student.

The fire broke out around 5 a.m. on 202 S. River Rd. West Lafayette Fire Chief Tim Heath said the three-story building had 32 apartments and all tenants were Purdue students. Eight units were burned, and the fire destroyed one end of the building.

The cause remains under investigation. The fire is not considered to be suspicious
