CRAWFORD COUNTY, Ind. – A volunteer firefighter is accused of setting more than a dozen fires in the Leavenworth area, including several set this week.
Brian Stoneciper, a volunteer firefighter and FedEx truck driver, admitted he set several fires while traveling in his delivery truck. He then responded as a firefighter to help put them out.
Indiana conservation officers and the State Fire Marshall arrested Stonecipher Wednesday night. He was booked at the Crawford County Jail on charges of arson and criminal mischief.
According to the Department of Natural Resources, Stonecipher, 27, is linked to 15 arsons, including one on Hoosier National Forest Property and two attempted fires at a vacant church.
Investigators said information from concerned citizens led them to suspect Stonecipher as the prime suspected. Multiple agencies have responded to fires this week, including two that were set within an hour of each other.
Anyone with information concerning about the case should contact Indiana Conservation Officers’ Central Dispatch at 812-837-9536 or the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Arson Hotline at 1-800-382-4628.
