INDIANAPOLIS — A broken water line flooded portions of Lafayette Road Wednesday morning.

Metro police blocked the road between 34th and 38th Streets around 2:30 a.m. following reports of water in the roadway.

Officers reported the roadway buckled and water covering much of Lafayette Road in the area.

Northbound Lafayette Road is expected to be blocked by work crews until mid-day Wednesday.

Crews from Citizens Energy and the Department of Public Works responded to repair the leak and clear the water and ice from the roadway.

Due to sub-freezing temperatures, the water quickly froze creating hazardous conditions.

Crews on scene told Fox59 those cold temperatures likely played a role in the break.
