BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (Feb. 24, 2015) – Crews with the City of Bloomington Utilities responded to a number of water main breaks Monday. The water main breaks happened at the same time and within a 5-to-7-mile radius. Full seal clamps were used to repair them.
The breaks occurred in the 1200 block of East 3rd Street, the 1500 block of North Jordan Avenue, and the 2400 block of South Brown Avenue in Bloomington. Besides the three water main breaks, crews repaired a water meter at the 120 block of East 4th Street.
“If you’re going to have a water main break, it’s going to be more often than not –it’s going to happen during the winter months than it will during the summer months and again that is due to the shift in the temperatures and the freeze and thaw and you have the ground that’s moving and the pipes shifting underneath,” Jon Callahan, Public Affairs Specialist with the City of Bloomington Utilities said.
Callahan said the weather was in the single digits and the wind chill was in the negatives yesterday. They did not have any issues on Tuesday.
“Again, I can’t say enough about our guys. They worked just about ..it doesn’t matter what the weather conditions are, and, yesterday it was a pretty tough day, but we got through it,” Callahan said.
