INDIANAPOLIS – A man sought refuge inside a west side McDonald’s after being shot, police say.

Police were dispatched to the 3400 block of West 16th Street Wednesday night after receiving reports that a man had been shot. Police found him in the lobby of the McDonald’s. They described him as alert and breathing, but said he was “uncooperative” when questioned about what happened. The man went to Wishard Memorial Hospital in stable but serious condition.

Upon further investigation, police said it appeared the victim had originally been shot in the 1400 block of Alton Avenue. After being wounded, he went to the McDonald’s for help.

Police haven’t released a motive for the shooting and are canvassing the neighborhood for eyewitness accounts.
