(July 11, 2014) – Top o’ the muffin to you! – July 11 is National Blueberry Muffin Day.

Blueberries are just bursting with flavor and we can’t think of a better way to sample the season than baking them into a pan of warm muffins.

A match made in culinary heaven, blueberry muffins are the ultimate comfort food. It’s a cupcake without the frosting, perfectly sweet and even made with fruit – so they’re good for you too, right?

The original American muffin started out smaller, drier and much less exciting than today’s successful coffeehouse darlings. Beginning in the 1970s, people began calling for bigger, better muffins because of a rise in specialty food stores and gourmet coffee, the health food movement and a decline in home-cooking.

The result? Steve Carrell said it best: “I ordered a muffin … but I think they gave me a small planet.”

Celebrate today with this old fashioned muffin recipe from Fox59 Assignment Editor Kylee Wierks!
