(September 18, 2015) – Two dogs missing for a week were finally found – with one of the dogs keeping vigil over the other.
The dogs had been missing from Vashon Island Pet Protectors, a nonprofit animal rescue organization.
According to their Facebook page, VIPP received a call from a community member reporting that for the past few days a “reddish” dog had been coming up to them when they were out on their property and then promptly heading back into a ravine.
So VIPP volunteers headed to the ravine, and after a bit of searching, finally heard the sound of dogs.
They called out the dog’s name, Tillie, and they got a one-woof response.
A few minutes later they found Tillie laying beside an old cistern with her head resting on the concrete wall.
They found the other dog, Phoebe, stuck in the cistern.
For nearly a week Tillie stayed by her side with the exception of the few minutes of each day when she went for help.
Both animals made it back to the shelter, and they are doing well once again.
VIPP called the relationship between Tillie and Phoebe “a humbling example of the power of love.”
