FRANKFORT, Ind. (June 14, 2014) — The wife of a Frankfort High School educator accused of child seduction told FOX59 News on Saturday why she decided to turn him in to police and why she does not believe all the wrongdoers have been arrested.
Thomas Weeks, a history teacher and basketball coach at the school, was arrested in late May and offered his resignation earlier this week. The Community Schools of Frankfort plans to take action on the resignation later in the month.
Weeks’ wife, Cortni, told FOX59 News on Saturday that she discovered something was wrong when she took a closer look at her husband’s cell phone.
“When I’d seen what the Twitter messages had said between him and a student, I immediately took the phone to the police department because it was wrong,” Cortni Weeks said. “It was inappropriate. It just made me sick.”
While Cortni said she raised eyebrows in her town by bonding Thomas Weeks out of jail after his arrest, she reaffirmed in the interview that she believes what her husband did was wrong.
“[It’s] very painful what my family and I are going through,” she said. “People make mistakes. I knew he was under the influence at the time. I really don’t know. I can’t even describe my feelings and I know I’m being judged for that by people in the community, but I can’t say that I didn’t love him still.”
Cortni said what troubles her most is that she reported to police the name of another Community Schools of Frankfort educator who she suspected of having an inappropriate relationship with the same student.
Nobody else has been arrested at this time.
“I’m not out to try to hurt this person. I’m just sick that this person… the pattern continues,” Cortni said. “Tom has been caught. He doesn’t belong in the school corporation at all and he will admit to that, but this other person is [going to] get by with it and the pattern continues and it’s just wrong. It is absolutely wrong.”
After-hours calls and emails to the Frankfort Police Department were not returned in time for the filing of this report.
