JENNINGS COUNTY, Ind. (July 29, 2015)-- An Indiana mother is warning buyers to beware when shopping for appliances on Craigslist.
Tamara Palmer said she got scammed into buying a broken fridge. She purchased it about three weeks ago from a man named Cory with 'Indy Appliances' on Craigslist for $450. She had just bought a house and didn't want to spend too much on appliances.
"First I thought it was probably too good to be true, but then I also thought I’ve bought used appliances before," she said.
She said Cory and another man delivered it to her North Vernon home. Cory gave her a receipt and a 30-day warranty and left with her cash.
A few days Palmer realized the fridge wasn't working properly.
“It had not gotten cold whatsoever.”
She showed us how she can't even keep milk in the fridge for her young daughter.
She tried to call Cory, but she never found him again.
Another appliance company by a similar name told FOX59 they get angry calls from Cory's customers at least twice a week mistaking them for Indy Appliance. That's been going on for a year, one employee said.
The stories they've heard and told Palmer scared her.
"Another lady had called in earlier that week and bought a dryer from him and her house burned down," said Palmer. "I was just in shock and angry and just I knew I had to do something to make sure this didn't happen to anybody else."
Palmer had to call a repair man to see if it can be fixed.
"I don't know if he doesn't think he's just going to get caught or he can just get away with it, but it just kind of makes me sick."
