A youg teen is hit by a car and injured on a dark stretch of roadway, with no sidewalks and poor lighting. It hapened around 1:30 Saturday morning.
The girl was walking southbound in the roadway on College Avenue near 91st Street. That’s when a car drove up from behind and struck her. Police say the driver says he didn’t see her.
A good samaritan happened upon the scene just moments after it happened, pulled over and got out to help. Lavar Garner tells Fox59 he saw a little girl lying the bushes in a ditch. He called police, stayed with her, comforted her and tried to keep her calm until medics arrived.
“I just wanted her to breathe. Keep calm try not to talk. She was saying she was sorry. I just wanted her to breathe,” Garner said.
The teen went to the hospital with a fractured leg. Police say the driver of the vehicle that hit the girl did stop and turn around after he realized what happened and is cooperating with authorities. A blood draw was issued, though police say they do not think alcohol was a factor.
