MARTINSVILLE, Ind. (June 29, 2015) – A Martinsville youth pastor has been charged with four felonies involving a girl in his youth group.
Twenty-six-year-old Jeremy Mitchell is accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a girl younger than 16.
Eastview Christian Church leaders told FOX59 Mitchell stepped down as the youth pastor after he confessed.
“He came and told us the situation and resigned. We prayed for him and then notified the proper authorities and things have taken their course,” said Rick Miller, senior minister at Eastview Christian Church.
Martinsville police aren’t releasing many details about the case, including how long this had been going on for and what exactly happened between Mitchell and the girl.
“It’s so hard to believe because it’s so far out of character for him,” said Miller.
Miller says Mitchell had been in charge of the youth group for the past few years and described him as “faithful and remorseful.”
“We’re very disappointed and grieved. We love him and all those involved and we are praying for them and trust that there will be healing,” said Miller.
Mitchell has been charged with three counts of sexual misconduct and one count of child solicitation. He declined our request for an interview.
