INDIANAPOLIS – Statistically speaking, the Colts schedule for the 2014 season figures to provide the team a significant advantage.
A combined opponents record of 110-146 makes the team’s slate the easiest in the National Football League–and the last two teams in the league to have that distinction reached the conference championship game.
That doesn’t really apply to their opener, however.
When the NFL released the schedule on Wednesday night, it revealed a challenging opener for the Colts against a familiar friend turned foe: Peyton Manning. Indianapolis will open their 2014 season with a Sunday night 8:30 p.m. game against the Denver Broncos at Sports Authority Field in Denver on Sept. 7.
Last season the Colts defeated the Broncos 39-33 in Manning’s return to Indianapolis on Oct. 20.
The Colts will appear in prime time on five occasions this season: Monday, Sept. 13 vs. Eagles; Thursday, Oct. 9 at Houston; Monday, Nov. 3; at the New York Giants; and Sunday, Nov. 16 against the Patriots.
