INDIANAPOLIS, Ind (Dec. 29, 2015) – The Colts signed free agent quarterbacks Josh Freeman and Ryan Lindley today.
The Colts were down to just one healthy quarterback after losing two signal-callers in their win in Miami on Sunday.
Matt Hasselbeck, who’s started eight games, hurt his shoulder in the second quarter, while Charlie Whitehurst pulled his hamstring in the fourth. The team placed Whitehurst on season-ending injured reserve on Monday.
Andrew Luck is still waiting to be cleared to return to game action after lacerating his kidney and tearing an abdominal muscle against Denver in early November. Head coach Chuck Pagano had no update during his first availability of the week on Monday.
It’s unclear whether Freeman, Lindley or Stephen Morris will receive a bulk of the first team reps during practice this week.
Freeman most recently played for the Brooklyn Bolts of the Fall Experimental Football League (FXFL) in 2015. He spent most of the 2015 offseason and all of training camp with the Dolphins before being waived during final cuts on September 5.
The Kansas State product has spent time with the Buccaneers and Vikings, starting 60 games. He’s thrown for over 13-thousand yards and 80 touchdowns.
Lindley spent the 2015 preseason with the Patriots. He’s also spent time with the Chargers and Cardinals, starting a playoff game for Arizona in 2014.
The team also signed guard Kitt O’Brien to the practice squad and promoted inside linebacker Amarlo Herrera to the 53-man roster from the practice squad. Inside linebacker Josh McNary was placed on the injured reserve list.
