INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (March 8, 2016) – To the surprise of no one, the Indianapolis Colts waived former first-round draft pick Bjoern Werner Tuesday.
The move was expected in light of Werner, the 24th overall pick in the 2013 draft, never developing into a viable pass rusher. He registered only 6.5 sacks in 38 regular-season games and was inactive for six games last season.
By waiving Werner, the Colts freed up $1.48 million against the salary cap. Earlier, the team retained linebacker Trent Cole by reworking his contract.
