INDIANAPOLIS, IN (October 29, 2014) – The Indiana Pacers will open the 2014-2015 regular season against the Philadelphia 76ers Wednesday night, marking the 48th season the team has been a part of Hoosiers’ lives.
In honor of Opening Night, Mayor Greg Ballard has declared Wednesday Gold Swagger Day. Fans are encouraged to wear gold to support the team.
“It’s something we’ve been looking forward to since the last season ended,” said Bill Benner, Senior Vice President of Corporate, Community and Public Relations.
Benner says the longtime fans will of course fill the seats, but he also thinks a curiosity factor will bring people to Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
“Obviously we don’t have Paul George and we have a couple other normal starters out, but it’s a great opportunity to come see the new guys and see how some of the older guys step in to new roles,” said Benner.
There is a party on Georgia Street from 5-7 p.m. hosted by the Indiana Pacers and our partner, the Indy Star. There’ll be live music and the chance to meet Boomer, the Pacemates, Rik Smits, George McGinnis and more.
Benner says fans will see a new opening video this season that really gives you a glimpse into the player personalities.
Fans at Wednesday night’s opener will also have a front row seat for the official unveiling of Bobbly “Slick” Leonard’s Hall-of-Fame banner.
“It’s more than basketball,” said Benner. “It’s the experience.”
