HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. – Not even a move out of state could keep Sharon Versyp’s team from claiming another Big Ten Tournament championship.
After winning the title last season at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis Purdue’s womens basketball team kept it going when the tournament moved to suburban Chicago.
The Boilers won three games at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates-20 miles outside of Chicago-including the tournament title game against Michigan State 62-47 to claim the tournament crown for a second straight season.
Senior Drey Mingo led the way with a game-high 24 points while shooting 10-of-11 from the field and grabbing a team high eight rebounds as she was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player.
Courtney Moses (16 Points) and KK Houser (10 Points) were also named to the All-Tournament team. All three helped the Boilers to a fast start in which they led 33-14 after 20 minutes and never looked back in repeating as Big Ten Tournament champions.
